The Save North Butler Community Group is dedicated to investigating school situations and finding answers with the NUMBER ONE priority being to better the education received by the North Butler Students. There is a cause for North Butler’s current situation that can be corrected without jeopardizing our children’s education by making hasty, unplanned decisions.

For some reason, community involvement is now being discouraged. The superintendent has manipulated MY WORDS to try to force the Community Group to discontinue its action, lose credibility, and cause uproar amongst citizens. The Save North Butler Group has NEVER discussed or even THOUGHT of changing the location of the High School.

My PERSONAL feeling is that an elementary school has a greater impact on a family’s decision to move into a community than a high school does. Ultimately, will this stop someone from moving into a community? NO. IT DOES NOT make sense to change the location of North Butler’s High School.

Administration has made access to public information very difficult to obtain. Another philosophy to SHUT the COMMUNITY DOWN! Let’s charge $45 per hour to answer questions and fulfill information requests. Is it out of line for a taxpayer to request information about the condition, potential issues, and future plans with all North Butler facilities? Last time I checked, Property Tax funds and One Cent Sales Tax can be and is used for building maintenance, updates, and remodel expenses.
If we are making decisions by following policies that are in place and with the future of our children up front and center, sharing information should not be an issue. Explaining the process of how we got where we are and where we are headed should be easy.

Let’s stop blaming and be accountable for the decisions that have been made.
The Save North Butler community group has requested a public forum with the school board and superintendent. The purpose is to give the community another chance to ask questions and define the plan that is in place for the future of North Butler. We do not know if the school board will accept our request or at what length they will allow questioning. In preparation, we will be compiling a list of questions to submit to the school board at the next board meeting, April 15. Please contact a member of the group or attend a community meeting to submit a question.

I want to be informed on how and why decisions are being made. I will not butt out.

SNBS has done a good job at asking what happened to the financial mismanagement of our school. How did it get so bad and why didn’t the board members intervene & prevent this disaster? There are board members who do not like these questions & have not taken responsibility for their part in this mismanagement. They blame the past super. but they as board members approved agenda items without having the financial or necessary information. I have seen board members be rude to folks asking…

The main problem was that the board hired a man who was clearly incompetent in matters of Iowa school finance

Why hasn’t the group just hired a lawyer?

A simple letter from a lawyer would have sped up the process long ago

It’s time to quit fooling around with the school board and Super. Hire a lawyer and CPA, get a court order and get the info you are requesting. The current Super is trying to work with the terrible situation Mr. K and the board left him. Don’t blame him for making tough decisions. He is trying to work with what he has. It seems to me the main problem or concern is what happened to the money that was left when Mr. Ward left.

The school board meeting is April 13 and not the 15th as I have stated above

School Boards and Administrators are notoriously non-transparent.

Also, State agencies typically are no help. It seems they all want to treat education as a sacred cow.

But good luck with your pursuit for information.
