Todd Blodgett Opinion: FOREIGNERS FIRST, vs. AMERICA FIRST?

Todd Blodgett of Clear Lake Iowa is an accomplished writer and political strategist. He has been the most-popular writer in the history of the Globe Gazette, been published in numerous news publications, and has written a book, “Republican Crackhead.”

The young black man in the holding cell next to mine had, like myself, been booked on a drug possession charge.  We chatted while awaiting the breakfast we’d eat four hours later.  “They done arrest me for possession,” he said, “but Ah knows me some peoples dat’s not even legally in dis country.  Dem be livin’ right here in DC, and dey’s illegal.  Ain’t no PO-leece arrestin’ dem suckas, while my po’ black a** be locked up.”  He added, “dis ain’t right, I’m sayin.  It ain’t fair, cuz I’se a CITIZEN.”  The sentiments he expressed regarding selective enforcement of the law in Washington, D.C., in 2006, represent thinking which, if skillfully played, will help President Trump on Nov. 3.  Leftists who infest the party of JFK and Harry Truman will have already sowed the seeds of Joe Biden’s defeat – IF the GOP plays its cards right.

The Trump/Biden race will be a clash of values unseen since 1860, when a little-known, Republican lawyer won with under 40 percent of the popular vote.  While the result may be closer than some Republicans believe, the ‘America First’ nominee will prevail.  Biden, a professional politician since Richard Nixon was President, is a male version of Hillary Clinton, but whose radical platform won’t resonate with enough low-income whites to snag 270 Electoral votes.  In losing 44 states to Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter condemned the Democratic party as “an albatross” around his neck.  Biden, in co-opting many ludicrous proposals of Senators Warren and Sanders, will soon find out what Carter meant.

In the 10 presidential elections from 1980 to 2016, Democrats averaged only 20 states, while their GOP counterparts averaged 30.  Even when Bill Clinton defeated President Bush in 1992, he garnered just 43 percent of the popular vote; in 1996, most voters, again, opposed him.  In 2000, neither George W. Bush nor Al Gore won a majority of the popular vote; in 2016, Donald Trump lost the popular vote by two percent, but won 31 states worth 306 Electoral votes to Hillary’s 232.  Trump can ignore 15 states, including New York, California and Illinois, and lose some states he won last time, and not flip any state Hillary carried, and STILL win.  Unlike previous modern Republican presidential nominees, Mr. Trump is backed by a base largely comprised of blue-collar workers, including union members.  Conversely, since becoming a US Senator 47 years ago, Biden has aligned with liberal elitists, who view him as a means of maintaining their power.  While he’ll be the first white male Democratic presidential nominee in 16 years, Trump will, overwhelmingly, win the votes white men will cast, regardless of their party.

Biden will also learn, the hard way, that Trump has far more support among blacks, Hispanics, Gays, and Jews, than most Democrats now suspect.  By advocating tax-funded health care for illegal aliens, and stating that illegals who are convicted of DWI shouldn’t be deported, and saying that law enforcement officers who enforce the law should be fired, Biden has signed onto a leftist agenda, which most likely voters will see as pro-perp and anti-American.  Effectively, Democrats justify enforcing our laws against US citizens while tacitly advocating clemency for those whose presence on US soil is illicit.  When I and the young man referenced above were incarcerated, Democrats and most Republicans largely avoided the issue of illegal immigration.  But Donald Trump changed that.  This fall, Trump’s tough, no-nonsense stances on illegal immigration, selective enforcement, law-and-order, and judges, will pay off, big time.  Biden will learn that most Americans prefer ‘America First’ to what could be called, ‘Foreigners First’.

Todd Blodgett served on President Reagan’s White House staff and on the campaign staff of President George H.W. Bush.  He also worked for the Republican National Committee and the FBI.  Mr. Blodgett lives in Tyler, Texas and in Clear Lake, Iowa.  He can be reached via his website: www.ToddBlodgett.US.
