MASON CITY – A Mason City man expressed excitement via social media for a long-awaited date night, only to be arrested hours later for domestic assault involving strangulation.
Police were called to 1050 East State Street early Sunday morning at about 1:23 AM to deal with a domestic assault. After an investigation, police determined that 23-year-old Jesse Lewis Halfpop had been the aggressor in a domestic incident which included the act of strangulation, a felony in the state of Iowa.
Halfpop was arrested and taken to jail. He was released later Sunday.
Hours before the domestic incident, on Saturday afternoon, Halfpop wrote via social media that he was “getting ready for a night with out any children been 5 months to long for a date night” and tagged his girlfriend in the post.
