WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new poll shows that whites trust cops more than non-whites.
According to a Gallup poll, white Americans (60%) surveyed last month expressed more trust in police than nonwhites did (49%), although the 11-percentage-point gap is slightly smaller than the average 14-point gap seen since 1985.
Gallup conducted the poll in the run-up to the grand jury decision that looms in Ferguson, Missouri, where a cop shot a black kid that was said to be un-armed.
One Mason City white man said of the poll: “Not sure who Gallup talked to, or where they found these white people that trust cops. All I know is, in Mason City, the cops only protect the “elites” and it generally don’t matter what color they are. The elites can assault the rest of us and let them off scott-free. Hard to trust that. By the way, I know of several “elite” fat middle-aged white guys who drive home drunk multiple times a week from the County Club, but you never see any drunk driving arrests out there. That should tell you something. One guy runs a local bank.”
