MASON CITY – Community response partners in Cerro Gordo County have been working together to develop plans and procedures in the event an Ebola case is diagnosed within our county.

Representatives from the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health, Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City Police Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Emergency Medical Services, Mason City Regional Airport, Cerro Gordo County Emergency Management Agency, and CERT have been participating in regular meetings ensuring all elements of our response are performed to the best of our abilities.

These partners are also participating in weekly Ebola preparedness and response conference calls and webinars with the Iowa Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Procedural updates are being implemented into current emergency response screening protocols.

“Our hope is that we never have to respond to an Ebola case in our county; however we know that by working together now, we are better prepared to quickly intervene successfully if it is necessary to do so,” said Steve O’Neil, Cerro Gordo County Emergency Management Agency Director.

The risk of an ongoing Ebola outbreak in the United States remains very low, as Ebola has not been shown to spread through casual contact. Residents should remember that Ebola is not transmitted through water, air, food, or casual contact. Ebola is only contagious if the infected person is having active symptoms such as fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Local hospitals and health care providers handle highly contagious illnesses every day. Plans are currently in place to respond to communicable disease related emergencies such as whooping cough and influenza, as well as less common diseases such as Ebola.

Cerro Gordo County response partners will continue to meet on a weekly basis, and will update citizens regularly.

Response partners invited to participate: Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health, Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City Police Department, Clear Lake Police Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, Clear Lake Emergency Medical Services, Mason City Emergency Medical Services, Mason City Regional Airport, Cerro Gordo County Emergency Management Agency, Mason City Clinic, and CERT.

“Local hospitals and health care providers handle highly contagious illnesses every day. Plans are currently in place to respond to communicable disease related emergencies such as whooping cough and influenza, as well as less common diseases such as Ebola.”
First off whooping cough is curable, influenza is curable, there IS NO CURE for Ebola. How can you people compare this with a straight face? YOU ARE NOT READY please STOP LIEING!

Like Sue I’ve been reading about Ebola She is right. I think everyone who works in the medical field including Police officers need to do their own research because they don’t tell you everything and THAT is a shame!

Please don’t sugar coat when it comes about talking Ebola. CDC has admitted that you can catch it through the air if someone is having symptoms and they sneeze or cough. If your going to educate and prepare for this at least tell the dam truth then maybe you wont loose your employees when or if it does show up. I have done a lot of reading on Ebola and there is A LOT of things that are not told!!

@sue-what they are saying is what is politically correct and what has been approved by the government. I think you are correct that there is a lot we are not being told. I read the other day that they have traced the Obola virus back thousand of years. They need to take every precaution to keep it out of our country and stop the political crap.

It irritates me to the core that they feel they need to lie about something so deadly/dangerous as Ebola. If officials here are going to educate then they need to tell the truth don’t lie to people about this. Did you know that there is people in Minnesota who are quarantined that hasn’t been reported in the news? They are not telling you this because they don’t want a panic. Disgraceful

@Sue-I know for a fact (I know some personally) that our health officials are telling us what they have been told. Anything else they can say would be guesswork and of course they can’t do that. The problem lies with our Federal Government again. For whatever reason they want to keep the truth from us. It doesn’t surprise me that there are quarantined people in Minnesota. They are a lot of people there from infected area’s. Rochester and Minneapolis.

I haven’t been able to figure out the Government’s reason myself I have my suspicions of course. Lets just hope that health employees/Officers do their own research and take precautions that best fits their own safety and their family’s. People also need to know that Ebola can live on surfaces from an infected person for awhile as well. That’s why you see all these space suit people wiping things down.

@Sue-I have heard from a respected doctor that one of the main things we are not being told about is the lifelong after effects of Obala if you should happen to survive the disease. It seem that the liver and kidney’s are severely affected and it does not go away. There is also ongoing muscle and joint pain that also will last all the rest of your life. In other words, the disease itself is only part of the issue. We are hearing nothing about what follows.

Thanks sue for sharing the information. I have known all along they are not telling us the truth. Thanks also for the link, that confirms the lies very well. Good job!

you mean panic like you’re doing?! thanx for proving your point….now go zip up your hasmat suit your slip is showing.
