MASON CITY – Fast food restaurants in Mason City will have one more potential employee to pick from once another hardened drug dealer fresh from the pen gets a bed at the Beje Clark halfway house.

John V. Gerhard, age 53, is convicted methamphetamine dealer from Mason City. He has been caught by Mason City police and Cerro Gordo deputies with meth and marijuana on at lest two occasions. He was sent to Beje in December of 2013 after he was caught the first time by MCPD officers. After he was caught the second time, in January of 2014, Gerhard was accused of bringing drugs into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and trying to help other inmates get high. He was sent to prison for five years in March of this year and served less than six months before he was released earlier this month to go back to his old stomping grounds at Beje Clark.

Gerhard is now tucked away, back in the Cerro Gordo County Jail, awaiting bed space at Beje. He will likely take a very low-paying job in the community and will be a fixture walking or riding a bike to work.

Until you walk in another’s shoes you shouldn’t judge. I used to have rather hardened views towards criminals. I’ve been shown how messed up our system is. I now reserve judgement until I see all the facts & walk in their shoes.
Having said that, please do get a job I’ll eat at the restaurant. 1. Change can happen sometimes you have to be knocked down a bunch before you get up & turn the other cheek. 2. If he’s still selling he certainly isn’t going to waste profits by adding it…

@jam-Are you nuts?? How many chances do we give a piece of crap like this. I won’t eat where he works. Hard telling where those hands have been.

Don’t worry about him working at a fast food place, that is totally beneath him.

Maybe facts should be checked before you write an article. This guy left prison and went straight to Beje on 9/9/14. Then on 9/22 he asked to be taken to jail. Wow journalism at its best here!

What makes anyone think that this guy won’t reoffend and be back pushing drugs before he even gets out of Bege. If I see him in any returant or fast food place where we are at I will call the manager and refuse to eat there until he is gone. This is absolute BULL S### that these types of people are allowed job’s handling food for the rest of us. They are proven rule and law breakers that don’t give a crap about anything except their damn drugs.

boy this guy wasted his life. what a puke to do this to his family.

I’m glad you framed it up in this way Matt, because this is precisely what’s going on in this defacto slavery environment masquerading as free-market democracy. Corporations and the prison industrial complex enjoy a symbiotic relationship trading human beings back and forth amongst each other. The end result is a life not worth living…one of meaningless indentured servitude to crappy jobs, and endless rent slavery to one of a few Feudal Landlords who control all the real estate
