DES MOINES – On Sunday, March 5, at 2:00 PM, Iowans will stand together at the state capitol building for a “Rally To Resist” so-called anti-LGBTQ legislation introduced by Republicans.
“There has been a non-stop list of discriminatory bills targeting LGBTQ Iowans during this year’s legislative session,” according to Progress Iowa, a progressive political group. “Iowans have had enough of these vicious attacks.”
A coalition of parents, students, educators, working families, faith leaders, community organizations, and elected officials will join together on Sunday. They will speak with one voice against the attacks being made against the entire LGBTQ community, specifically trans children, as well as teachers and educators.
“Iowans have had enough. We understand that our friends, neighbors, and family members are under attack and their rights are being stripped away. And Iowans are unified against anti-LGBTQ bills. No politician has the right to tell us which bathroom to use, deny us medical care, dictate which pronouns to call ourselves, ban books and curriculum, roll back civil rights, deny adoption and foster care, do away with marriage equality, or call queer people obscene.
“We will not be silent. And we call on every Iowan to use their voice on Sunday and every day to speak out for the Iowa that we believe in, where everyone has the freedom and opportunity to thrive.”
