NEW HAMPTON – Police have arrested a New Hampton man after a standoff there this weekend.
Shots were fired Sunday morning August 31 at about 4:45 AM at a residence on South Walnut Avenue in the city of New Hampton. Chickasaw county deputies and New Hampton police arrived and removed everyone from the house except a man, said to be 23-year-old Nelson Hershberger, who was arrested.
Hershberger was taken to jail and charged with reckless use of a firearm, aggravated domestic abuse assault and child endangerment, KWWL TV reported. Herschberger was released from jail the same day.
