Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds

DES MOINES – Today Governor Kim Reynolds announced new measures to address the State of Iowa’s severe workforce shortage. Effective June 12, 2021, the State of Iowa will end its participation in federal pandemic-related unemployment benefit programs. Iowa will continue to provide regular state unemployment insurance benefits to those eligible under the applicable state code.

“Federal pandemic-related unemployment benefit programs initially provided displaced Iowans with crucial assistance when the pandemic began,” said Gov. Reynolds. “But now that our businesses and schools have reopened, these payments are discouraging people from returning to work. Our unemployment rate is at 3.7 percent, vaccines are available to anyone who wants one, and we have more jobs available than unemployed people.”

The week ending June 12, 2021 will be the last week that the following federal pandemic-related unemployment benefit programs are available in Iowa:

  • Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)
  • Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
  • Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)
  • Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation (MEUC)

Additionally, effective June 13, 2021, Iowa will no longer waive employer charges for COVID-related unemployment insurance claims.

“Regular unemployment benefits will remain available, as they did before the pandemic, but it’s time for everyone who can to get back to work,” Gov. Reynolds continued. “This country needs to look to the future, and Iowa intends to lead the way.”

In addition to the information included in a memorandum to Governor Reynolds, Iowa Workforce Development will provide further details in conjunction with this announcement.

The jobs are out there. Lazy people just need to get the incentive to want to work.

When will liberal morons realize this is happening under Biden because he is weak. This would never have happened with Trump

its about time!!! why would you want one of the thousand jobs when you can sit home on your a$$ and collect nearly $500 a week???

Move to Minesooota then – won’t miss you or all the illegals that Reynolds just told to go to socialist states
such as Minnesota. Good call Governor Reynolds -thank you much.

heartless. this woman is a witch.

More political pandering by the gov. Our unemployment rate in 2019 was around 2.5% and we still had many job openings that needed to be filled. We don’t have a problem with people not working, we have a problem with not enough workers to fill openings. Rather than working on attracting workers to Iowa, Reynolds would rather discourage people from coming here.

Wait a minute. It was Biden who just told us all is well with the economy and unemployment. You morons bashing Reynolds can’t have it both ways. Maybe your biggest problem is you can’t find a nipple to nurse on.

Just drink your orange Kool Aid Slushy & STFU!!

hate reality?

Pull your head out of your ass. The reason the governor, like the ones before her, can’t entice people to come to Iowa is fairly simple. WE ARE FLY OVER COUNTRY. We don’t have any BIG cities, nearest are historically Shitcago and Omahahaha. We are mostly rural, again, can’t go clubbing out in the sticks, want to go have a fine dining experience, well your going to be driving for a while.

The people coming out of college want to be working with people their own ages, having their same ideals, and having lots of activities available, in Iowa, we can’t offer that.

So, play your blame game which is and always has been bullshit, just like most things you say, in the end, people that think, can understand why.

So, you must agree then that she is pandering. We don’t have the workers to fill the jobs so we should just forget about it because we are a fly over state? If that reasoning is true, why send the money back? It would certainly help our state because that money would be spent here. It is not like trickle-down economics where giving the already rich more money because they will use it to enrich the lives of those not so fortunate has already been proven false, it is putting money in the pockets of Iowans who will spend the money here, not in their vacation homes in Florida.

Your mother must be so proud of you, you finally made it past the third grade, idiot.
Trickle down does work, but it takes a little while. The “rich” will spend where they live, and where they play. they will start buying more, which puts more into the economy. Now, we need more workers because the company can’t keep up, so they are expanding. This puts more into the economy.
By cutting the purse strings now, the layabouts will be up and about, established in a job before it gets cold, when it is usually harder to find a new job.
Also, ALL federal money has so sort of strings attached. This is the biggest reason you will see states toss federal money back, to not have all the hoops to jump through.

“Trickle-down does work, but it takes a little while.” You bet you idiot. We are still waiting for that trickle down from Ronnie Ray-gun to take effect. Maybe this year? Or should we wait a little longer?

Great comeback, you moron. You going to make it to 4th grade next year or will they hold you back again?

I like this common sense Lady ! You should be glad Iowa is a RED state – Look at what’s happening up north in RED state – commie law gov. said this morning that if 70% of all minnesota residents take the SHOT he will end the mask mandate July 1st we say recall the sob socialist.

Don’t let the border door hit you in the ass.

When’s the moving truck supposed to be there, sure we can find people to help load.

Get out of Iowa you f88king commie
