Grant will help purchase improvements at CL’s Central Gardens

Central Gardens 6CLEAR LAKE – The first grant produced by the Central Gardens of North Iowa Endowment Fund will be used to help purchase wrought iron railings that will line steps leading to the garden’s Nature Education Pavilion. The Central Gardens of North Iowa endowment fund was created in 2012, one of 18 funds that make up the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation. This fund yields annual grants that support activities, plants, structures, and upkeep associated with the gardens.

The gardens are a work in progress. The Nature Education Pavilion (NEP) was completed nearly two years ago, with the help of many donations, including one made by Don and Marian Easter and the Easter family in honor of Marian’s parents, Harlan and Opal Streyffeler. Harlan and Opal shared their Clear Lake cabin with their family, who grew up loving this area. To give back to the community Don and Marion decided to donate to the gardens to help build the Pavilion. The Pavilion is just one of the many beautiful features of the gardens, all of which will be improved and maintained with future grants from the endowment fund.

The Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by and for the people of Cerro Gordo County. The Foundation’s mission is to strengthen Cerro Gordo County communities by encouraging charitable giving to create legacies for the future. They offer world-class donor services and wise investing. Their grants are designed to act as a catalyst for community transformation and growth, enriching the lives of area citizens. Where’s the grant to put chess tables in the parks? Where’s the grant to put public recreation facilities for people to use? Okay, so you walk through the gardens a few times…then what? Weddings? Bar Mitzvah’s? That’s a big chunk of land you folks occupy. How about putting a few chess tables in the gardens? Or would that be too communist of you?

Better yet, why don’t YOU, DONATE the chess tables for the park? I know you’re thinking about doing it, because you are the kind of guy.

How very kind of you. I look forward to seeing the story right here on NIT showing you donating those much needed chess tables too. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!

@Buzz-aw he is just wanting something for nothing again. Give him a break. A leg will do.

@LVS…You know as well as I do, he’s secretly planning a huge donation to the park. Rumor has it that he’s going to make his donation on behalf of the local motorcycle riders.

@Buzz-he will probably show up on the back of a Harley (riding side saddle of course).
