Skilled Iowa hiring event set for this week

MASON CITY – IowaWORKS North Iowa, along with North Iowa Area Community College, is hosting a regional career fair on Wednesday, October 16 from 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm. The event will be held at the Area Education Agency 267 offices at the Mason City Municipal Airport. Individuals attending the hiring event will have an opportunity to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) at no cost prior to the fair from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Certification is recommended but not required to attend the hiring event.

The NCRC is a credential recognized across the country that students and workers use to demonstrate their workplace skills. Employers can use the NCRC to help identify skilled workers for available jobs. Certificates are awarded at a platinum, gold, silver or bronze level.

Area employers that recognize the NCRC will be available to visit with jobseekers regarding career opportunities and desired skills and experience. Businesses schedule to attend the fair include Aaron’s Sales & Lease, ABCM Corporation, Boyd Gaming/Diamond Jo Casino, Eaton Manufacturing, Fox River Mills, Hagie Manufacturing, Iowa Mold Tooling, Kelly Services North Iowa, KIMT-TV, Larson Manufacturing/Spherion Staffing, Malt-O-Meal, Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, North Iowa Broadcasting, Rembrandt Enterprises, The Dimensional Group, Three Eagles Communications, Valent BioSciences Corp and WS Live.

Preparation for the National Career Readiness assessments, essential soft skills training, and assistance with resumes and interviewing techniques is available at no cost through IowaWORKS by visiting the Center at 600 S. Pierce, Mason City, or calling (641) 422-1521.

Encouraging Iowans to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate is a goal of Iowa Workforce Development’s Skilled Iowa Initiative. The credential is recommended by over 7,500 businesses statewide. The program uses a standardized assessment system that rates the skills and abilities of Iowa’s workforce, assisting businesses in evaluation of an individual worker’s skills, and allowing for a more accurate matching of skill sets with those required by the job. There is no cost to Iowa businesses to use NCRC assessments as part of their hiring process, nor is there a cost to Iowa residents.
