MASON CITY – An Iowa man has been arrested on felony assault charges after an investigation by Mason City Police.

According to a report, the investigation by police began on September 16th at about 2:45 AM after the incident, which took place at a residence at the 000 block of 14th Street SE.

During the course of the investigation, officers made contact with a female who reported a former boyfriend had entered her residence on the evening of September 15th by forcing his way through a window.  The female reported being assaulted by the male as well as being held against her will for the next several hours.  The female and her child were eventually able to get out of the residence and contact police.

Later, officers located the suspect, Peter Leroy Veal, age 27, who was still at the female’s residence.  Veal’s most current address shows Ames, Iowa, but it is believed that he actually lives in Mason City at this time.  Veal was arrested and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Veal is charged with the following: Burglary in the first degree, a class B felony; 3rd offense domestic assault resulting in injury, a class D felony; and false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor.

Veal is being held on no bond until he sees a judge.
