POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY — An Iowa man was killed Monday afternoon after his car left Interstate 880, struck a bridge railing, became airborne and landed upside down in Mosquito Creek, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. on June 15, 2026, on I-880 near mile marker 16.
Investigators said a 2021 Subaru Legacy driven by Aaron Charles Roloff, 22, of Minden, was eastbound on I-880 when it left the roadway. According to the patrol, the Subaru crossed the median and struck a bridge railing on the westbound side of the interstate.
The impact caused the vehicle to become airborne, strike the creek bank below the bridge and come to rest upside down in Mosquito Creek.
Roloff was found deceased at the scene.
The patrol report said he was transported to the medical examiner by Cutler Funeral Home.
The report did not list any other vehicles or injuries.
The Subaru was towed by Lyon’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Sgt. Jeff Cunningham was listed as the investigating officer. The Iowa Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
The fatal crash is another reminder of how quickly a highway crash can turn deadly, especially when a vehicle leaves the roadway near a bridge, ditch, creek or other roadside hazard.
