Most Syrians see war lasting over a year

Conflict will rage in Syria for at least a year or longer, most Syrians think, a new poll shows.

Gallup reported that the majority of Syrians surveyed in June and July see bleak prospects for the conflict ending soon. Fifty-one percent of Syrians see the conflict consuming their lives for at least one or two more years, while 30% see it ending in less than a year.

At this time, the United Stated is contemplating a military strike on Syrian targets after the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government on its own people.  President Barack Obama is behind the strike, and members of Congress continue to get behind the action.

On Wednesday, the United Nations refugee agency and senior Government ministers from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey – countries which together host more than 1.7 million Syrian refugees – called on the international community to “overcome differences” to stop the fighting in Syria, as the made an urgent appeal for expanded assistance to the region.
