MASON CITY – “Having a neighborhood block party is the best way to get to know your neighbors, your local government representatives and your community police officers,” according to Chris Watts, chair of the Georgia Hanford Neighborhood Association. “Most importantly, they are great ways to increase safety and to build a sense of community in your neighborhood.”
Mason City’s Block Party Weekend is traditionally the third weekend in August. This year that’s the weekend of August 17 and 18. If you need help in putting together your block party there is a Block Party Kit available to help plan and stage your neighborhood block party.
This kit includes the form necessary to request street closures and barricades, suggestions on how to start organizing a party, good ideas for your party, helpful reminders, a sample invitation, and much more.
The Neighborhood Block Party Kits are available online at www.masoncity.net or from the Development Services Department in City Hall, 3rd floor, 10 – 1st St. NW.
