MASON CITY – The First Annual “Beat the Heat” Motorcycle Rally was held at the Iowa National Guard Armory in Mason City by MAG, the Motorcycle Awareness Group.
The motorcycle extravaganza featured attractions included People’s Choice Motorcycle Show with trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, Motorcycle Photo Rally Scavenger Hunt, Leather goods, knives, food and a live fire breather. Admission for adults was $3.00, kids 5-12 was $2.00 and under 5 years was free. If you brought a non-perishable food item there was a $1.00 discount at the door.
“The past couple years we have done Motofest in Clear Lake,” said Jesse Bell, a member of MAG. “We decided to do something smaller and have it held at the Armory. We are using it as a fundraiser for local charities and collecting can goods. We like to promote safety and involvement in the community. We hope to see everyone next year.”
There were booths set up. One was M.F.T. A. (Metal Fabrication by Tom Arndt) Junkyard Art Creations out of Manly. When asked if he had sold anything, Tom said, “No, not today. I’m happy to be here to show my art and that people get to see it.”
In the middle of the floor, the motorcycles were displayed. The rally didn’t discriminate. All makes and models are invited to participate.
