MASON CITY – The heavy rain that moved through Mason City Saturday morning and afternoon didn’t stop the carnival at the North Iowa Events Center that evening.
The kids were excited about getting on the rides, but not only the children, their adult counterparts were having just as much fun.
Mattie Borchardt was enjoying the merry-go-round with her Grandpa, Larry Portis.
“She just loves her Grandpa,” said Mattie’s Mom, of Nora Springs. The family made the trip to Mason City just for the North Iowa Fair.
While they were enjoying the rides, Helen Portis, Larry’s wife, was enjoying some fried Oreos. One of the many food items available at the fair.
After the Merry-Go-Round was over, Mattie wasn’t quite done having fun on the rides but her tickets were gone. She wanted to go on the little cars again.
Mom said Mattie was done riding, but a carnival worker asked if it would be okay if she just let Mattie ride. Mattie’s mother agreed and Mattie got one last ride, courtesy of the nice carnival worker.
The North Iowa Fair wraps up Sunday with a full day’s worth of events and fun for the family.
Glad to see kids enjoying the carnival.
Have to say it – one would not know if the rain slowed the fair; it is slow even without rain.
The world has changed and the whole idea of a county/area fair may need rethinking.
you need to go to the butler, franklin, or clay county fairs to see that they are still strong.
Your right 50 mile, but the biggest differance with those fairs are you have a County, City, Fairboard that all work together. In Mason City the band of missfits uptown don’t give a damn about the fairgrounds and we know the county supervisers just want to sell the property. So that leaves the fairboard to try to run the fair by itself. It would be alot better if they would combine the BBQ Bash and the fair on the same week/weekend and have it at the fairgrounds but you will never see that.
are you saying there is NO common sense with Cerro Gordo officials?
