CHARLES CITY — A Northern Iowa woman was cited after police say she lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a legally parked SUV, causing approximately $20,000 in combined damage.

The Charles City Police Department responded at approximately 4:34 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, to the 300 block of Fifth Avenue for a crash involving a parked vehicle.

Police said Kiarra Mashek, 25, of Charles City, was driving a black 2017 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on Fifth Avenue when she struck a legally parked white 2012 Dodge Journey.

Authorities estimated damage to the two vehicles at approximately $20,000.

No injuries were reported.

Mashek was cited for failure to maintain control.

Charles City police have handled several costly crashes involving drivers who allegedly failed to control their vehicles. NIT previously reported that another Charles City collision caused thousands of dollars in damage and resulted in a failure-to-maintain-control citation.

The citation is an allegation and has not been proven in court.
