Martial arts fighter says sex balm hurt his sex life

PHILADELPHIA, May 22 (UPI) — A mixed martial arts fighter is suing a Philadelphia adult shop, saying a product he bought to enhance his sex life had the opposite effect.

Michael Waylon Lowe alleges in court papers the Kama Sutra Pleasure Balm Prolonging Gel left him with scars on his penis, the Philadelphia Daily News reported Wednesday.

He filed a lawsuit May 14 against The Mood, the store on Philadelphia’s trendy South Street where he bought the balm, and Kama Sutra Co. and Kamsut Inc., its California-headquartered manufacturer and distributor.

“This is a very private, but very significant loss for a man who is very vital in so many other aspects,” Lowe’s lawyer, Thomas R. Kline, said. “This is a man who literally makes his living avoiding injury; he knows how to protect himself. Yet he wasn’t provided with the most basic, simple instructions to protect himself from this product. If it could happen to him, it could happen to anyone.”

Marla Lee, president of Kama Sutra, said the main ingredient in the balm is benzocaine, a chemical used in children’s teething products.

“This product has been offered for over 40 years without incident of any kind, so it’s a bit confusing that he would have this kind of response to it,” Lee said.

Stuart Schlaffman, who owns The Mood, said he was notified about the lawsuit Monday. He said the balm has been taken off the shelf.
