Serious assault suspect, out on bond for drug dealing charges, caught Sunday

Mason City Police search around the 700 block of N. Carolina Ave. for Pohlman

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – Shortly before 7:00 am Sunday morning, Mason City Police responded to a call of an assault in the vicinity of 8th Street and North Carolina Avenue.

A female could be heard crying in the background as officers searched the area of the 700 and 800 block of N. Carolina.

Jordan Nicholas Pohlman, age 21, was arrested on Bullis Court and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and booked for serious domestic assault.

Pohlman has other charges pending from an incident that occurred on October 18, 2012. He was charged with a class D felony controlled substance violation. Court records show Pohlman allegedly had marijuana in his possession at a park with intent to deliver.  That case is still in court.

Pohlman was given a deferred judgment in a third degree burglary case in 2009 but later violated the terms of his probation.  Judge Colleen Weiland allowed Pohlman to escape a felony charge of escape of a felon and Pohlman was instead found guilty of voluntary absence, a serious misdemeanor.

Pohlman has been out on bond since November 5th awaiting a court date to face charges brought by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony.

Pohlman owes the courts thousands in unpaid fines and fees from a range of cases within the last few years.

I think it’s funny watching this town ripping apart at the seams. Everyone complains about Judge Weiland but so far nothing is being done about it! Thanks for the laughs!

Judge Weiland needs to have done to her what victims of the criminals she lets go have done to them. An eye for an eye!!!!!

Once again, I read comments that express ignorance in the realities of legal cases. You and I do not know what went on in court, what was offered as evidence or pleadings.

All you konw is what is in the article, and boom, throw out the baby with the bathwater. Unless you are privy to that information, it is very hard to say why a case turned out as it did.

Do everyone a favor, sit in on a few cases from start to finish and observe the process at work. That is if you can understand what is actually going on.

@Observer-are you a judge or a prosecuter? You sure sound like one or the other. It is easy to make excuses but not so easy to do the right thing. You let pieces of crap like this run loose and then put some poor jerk in jail for smoking a joint. The judges are there to protect the citizens. If they can’t do their jobs they should resign. Just how many chances can you justify with B.S.

Apparently it his hard for Observer to believe when somebody escapes from Beje there is evidence clear as day when they do not return for a week.

What did you people expect the prosecution to prosecute this man for his crimes, when he could plea bargain them and go home early for the day.

Its easy to blame the judge but unless those of us that are paying taxes are willing to pay more low lives like this will continue to get out of serving the time they deserve. It cost alot of money to keep people in prison we all must either pay up or shut up about judges that allow low lives back on the streets.

It’s not just the north end, it’s all of Mason city. There was just a robbery on the south end. Judge Weiland needs to GOOOOO!!!!!

Yeah, but all 4 robbery suspects give NORTH END addresses.

That’s not the one I’m talking about & yes 2 of them are from the north end, others from south side. Turf war? lmao!!

Didn’t this guy play Crabman in the hit TV show My Name Is Earl?

I think he’s related to the owners of the redemption center that’s on Monroe. And I think I’ve seen him working there before.

Seriously, what needs to be done to get this Judge Weiland out of there?

I agree!! Judge Weiland has no business being on the bench. She is a friend of the criminal and not the tax payers who pay her wage.

You ignorant cow.

I read that in a Gordon Ramsey voice! LOL!

Virtually crime free? Pull your head out of the sand!

SHOCKER….North End.

Judge Colleen Weiland needs to be removed from the bench. She serves the criminal element. Let’s get her removed that would be justice

I think Judge Colleen Weiland should be removed from the bench. She doesn’t serve justice, she serves the criminal element. Let’s take up a petition & turn into whom ever can do this. That would be justice!!

What does it take for these prosecuters and judges to do their jobs and get these punks off the streets? It happens over and over again and they are just laughing at the so called authority’s. The go right back to being criminals and don’t pay their fines because they know they will be out no matter what they do.
