RURAL MASON CITY – A Texas man pulled out into the path of a Missouri man behind a semi truck and got more than he bargained for on his visit to Mason City.

On November 20, 2023, at 8:01 AM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a personal injury collision between a pick-up truck and semi tractor-trailer in the 14000 block of 300th Street in rural Mason City. The driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 24-year-old Matthew Arnold of Hewitt, Texas, was stopped at a stop sign on a haul road on the south side of 300th Street. Arnold proceeded onto 300th Street and did not yield the right of way to a 2023 Peterbilt Semi driven by 54-year-old Thomas Roberson of West Plains, Missouri.

As a result of the ensuing collision, Arnold was treated by Mason City Fire Department Medics at the scene and declined transport. He was cited for failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office was assisted by Mason City Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa State Patrol Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit.
