Humane Society of North Iowa events planned for September

MASON CITY –

The Humane Society of North Iowa has a lot of activities planned for the month of September, including a cat adoption event, a cookbook launch and their annual Fall Festival fundraiser.

Back to School Cat Adoption Event

The “Back to School Cat Adoption Event” is being held throughout the month of September.  The event promotes the adoption of shelter cats over the age of 6 months by reducing their adoption fee to just $75.00.  The adoption fee covers spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and all other appropriate vet work.

“We are hoping that by offering a reduced fee, people will be encouraged to adopt a new feline friend,” said Sybil Soukup, Executive Director of the organization.  “Sometimes people may be tempted to get a cat for free from a neighbor or from another source, but by the time you do all the necessary vet work, that free kitty is actually much more expensive than an adopted one,” concluded Soukup.

The reduced adoption fee will be offered through the month of September.  To see a complete listing of all available cats for adoption, please visit the Humane Society of North Iowa’s website at: www.hsni.org

Rescued Recipes Cookbook
The Humane Society of North Iowa is also launching a new cookbook entitled Rescued Recipes.  The book features over 300 recipes that have been submitted by volunteers, friends, and staff of the Humane Society of North Iowa and includes several recipes for the four-legged members of the family!  The books are $10.00 each and are for sale at the shelter.  All proceeds benefit the animals the animals of the Humane Society of North Iowa.

Annual Fall Festival Fundraiser

The Humane Society of North Iowa will hosts its 13th annual Fall Festival Fundraiser on Sunday, September 23rd from noon to 4:00 at the National Guard Armory in Mason City.  The event features a silent auction, bake sale, concession stand, kids activity corner and “flea-less” market.  Guest speakers will include Staff Sergeant Dianne Raymond from Service Dogs for Veterans, and Katie McColloch who will perform a “Disc Dogs” demonstration with her disc champion dog (and Humane Society of North Iowa alumni), Riley.  For more details about this event, please visit the Humane Society of North Iowa website at: www.hsni.org
