MANLY – The Manly Public Library has created a digital archive of FitnessDigest.us, available to patrons that visit the library.
FitnessDigest.us is a digital edition magazine that features athletes using racing or events to highlight greater causes. The magazine has featured stories from US Masters Rowing Coach of the Year, Olympic gold medalists, a UK swimmer attempting a crossing of the English Channel, world record holders, Special Olympians and a Transplant Game world champion.
The magazine is published locally. The entire collection of the digital edition magazine is archived on the adult reading station. Patrons can use the Adobe Digital Editions software located on the reading station to view the virtual-shelf that holds all five issues ever released to the public: Volume 3 issues 2, 3, 4, and Volume 4 issues 1 & 2.
FitnessDigest.us Publisher Mark Miller, of Mason City, said, “We are very thankful for the cooperation the Manly library has shown. Some of the stories are quiet historic. Some of our writers and contributors like to see their stories archived in a real library.”
Digital preservation is a growing trend in libraries and universities across the nation. More information on digital preservation can be found by reading Digital History, A Guide to Gathering, Preserving, and Presenting the Past on the Web written by Daniel J. Cohen and Roy Rosenzweig of George Mason University.
