MASON CITY -More work was accomplished along 19th Street SE in Mason City this weekend.

Volunteers Chris Watts and Larry Solberg, who both live along that street, planted a total of 36 new flowering shrubs Saturday.

The bushes are called Red Prince Weigelas.  “We wanted plants that would beautify the area but not be tall enough to block the view of businesses,” the pair noted.

A skid loader with an auger on the front made digging the holes a snap.

“A big Thanks to Joel Ernst (River City Fence) who allowed us to use his equipment for this project,” Watts said.

“I think I’d be digging hole number three or four without the use of that,” Solberg chuckled as he raked and smoothed ground around the new shrubs.

The city donated dirt to fill in the area.

Watts also wanted the public to know that the volunteer group that is spear-heading the improvements in the area is still short some funding.

“We are still shy some funding and anyone interested in donating can write a check to Georgia Hanford Neighborhood and mail to Nancy Solberg, our treasurer, at 303 19th St. S.E.

This is the guy running for County Supervisor. Seems like he is a man to get the job done type.
Your street is looking good! Keep it up.

If every neighborhood in Mason City had as much pride and determination as the folks on 19th Street this town would be a prettier and much nicer place to live. Keep up the good work. It really does look wonderful.

Spot on Reggie. A lot of other neighborhoods could take notice. In a lot of cases, all we hear are excuses instead of action.
