MASON CITY – No more noisy parties at the Ashley Inn Motel. Four years ago, when new managers Rob Peterson and Kelly Helgeland took over, things started to change for the business.
“There’s no more renting out rooms by the hour. There never was supposed to be but it went on here.” Helgeland told NorthIowaToday.com. “We don’t like noise at night, so if we hear anyone getting rowdy or starting something up we tell them they need to leave.”
“We have people living in a couple of the efficiency rooms, for two to four years now. We haven’t had any problems with them. The clientele is just better all the way around. We are usually pretty busy, especially on weekends, most of time all the rooms get filled,” said Helgeland.
“Rob is doing some remodeling himself. He does detailed work, not sloppy. He’s getting it done the right away and as cost efficient as he can,” said Brigett Mitchell.
Mitchell has been working for the Ashley Inn, located at 3451 South Federal Avenue, cleaning rooms since July. She’s seen the difference Rob and Kelly have made. “When I tell Kelly we need something for a room, or cleaning supplies, she’s right out there getting them. There always use clean, unstained towels and sheets to put in the single and double rooms. The rooms have a refrigerator, air conditioning, cable with HBO, microwaves and internet hook-up.”
Mitchell went on to say that “this is the cleanest these rooms have ever been. I get up in the corners to get the cobwebs and I move the beds to vacuum. I don’t just go around everything. The bathrooms are cleaned and sanitized every day.”
The Rayburn Mobile Home Park, which was located directly behind the motel was removed in 2009 and finally cleaned up last Fall. With the efforts the management has put in place, The Ashley Inn looks to be a quiet, clean and enjoyable place to stay.
The Rayburn Mobile Home Park was actually located further south, next to Security Self Storage.
You two should try it again. She’ll appreciate the improvements.
