North Iowa man sets Guinness record in juggling

Mark Hanson of Kanawha set a Guinness world record on Saturday in Mason City.

Hanson juggling three balls for one minute and set a record for the most tosses.

I broke the world record with around 417 catches,” Mark said.  “I still beat the record by 75 catches. Everything is still unofficial of course. It’ll be up to two months before I get an an answer back from Guinness.”

Hanson made a few attempts at the record on Saturday at the Iowa National Guard Armory.

“My first go at the record netted me 411 catches then I did a 408. Going backwards wasn’t exactly in my game plan,” Mark explained. “Then I did a 414 followed by five screw ups. Time to start bumming out. It’s funny that I was bumming out sitting on a 414 but expectations had set everyone’s sites pretty high.”

Hanson said that as he pursued a higher and higher record, nerves began to set in.

“My confidence was a little shaky so were my legs so I had to sit on a chair to take my last shot at 420. It’s amazing how fast nervous energy can drain your strength. The crowd was showing a little vicarious nervousness too.”

After He had put the old record to rest, Hanson was just glad it was over.

“I was seriously happy it was over. Now I just have to sweat out the Guinness response.”

Hanson will send in video and witness accounts of his accomplishment, and then wait for Guinness to give the final approval.
