Twenty-nine miles of City streets are designated for adoption through the City’s Adopt-a-Street Program. Three streets are currently available for families, businesses, service clubs and other organizations interested in participating in the program.
The Adopt-a-Street Program involves participating groups who agree to clean their designated street at least three times per year. Clean-up crew kits are available to all adoptive groups during their clean-up efforts, and the City’s Sanitation Department staff removes the filled litter bags.
In exchange for the adoptive group’s efforts, signage highlighting their name is posted on both ends of the assigned street.
Mary Zishka, volunteer service coordinator for the City of Mason City stated that the three streets currently available for adoption include Kentucky Avenue from 19th SE to Quail Avenue (east side of the road), Frontage road from Village Green Drive to Tiffany Drive and South Birch Avenue beginning at Hwy. 122 East.
According to Zishka, the Adopt-a-Parking Lot Program has one parking lot available for adoption. The program requires a once per month commitment. The lot is located north of Central Park on 1st Street N.W.
Those interested in learning more about either program or wish to adopt any of these locations, call: 421-3372, e-mail mzishka@masoncity.net or stop by City Hall.
