WALCOTT — A tragic Iowa rollover crash sent three people to the hospital, including a 23-month-old girl who was flown to University of Iowa Children’s Hospital after being ejected from a pickup on Interstate 80.

The crash happened at approximately 3:23 PM on June 27, 2026, near the 283-mile marker of westbound Interstate 80 in Scott County, northeast of Walcott.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, a 2017 GMC Sierra was traveling westbound while pulling an enclosed camper when the driver lost control. The pickup and camper both rolled over and came to rest on their tops in the interstate median.

The truck was occupied by a 31-year-old male driver, a 35-year-old female passenger and a 23-month-old girl.

Authorities said the woman and the toddler were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Officials later identified the driver as Elio N. Garcia, 31, and the adult female passenger as Axe Graves, 35. Both are from Wisconsin.

Garcia was transported by Medic Ambulance to MercyOne Genesis Hospital. Graves was transported by Medic Ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals.

The toddler was flown by MedForce to University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

In an update issued after the crash, officials said Garcia and Graves had been treated at the hospital and released. The 23-month-old girl remained under care at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

The child’s name was not released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

The case also highlights the importance of child restraints and seat belts in serious crashes. Iowa law requires children under 6 to be secured in an appropriate child restraint system used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Responding agencies included Scott Emergency Communications Center, Scott County Medic EMS, MedForce, Iowa State Patrol, Davenport Police Department, Walcott Police Department, Blue Grass Police Department, Walcott Fire Department and Durant Fire Department.
