MASON CITY – Alcohol consumption among adults in the United States has fallen to the lowest on record, according to Gallup survey, with only 54% of Americans drinking alcohol in the past year, compared with 58% in 2024 and 62% in 2023.

A recent Gallup poll reveals that alcohol consumption in the United States has dropped to a historic low, with only 54% of adults reporting they drink, the lowest since tracking began in 1939. This decline is particularly pronounced among Republicans, who have seen a 19-point drop since 2023, compared to a 3-point decrease among Democrats. The shift is largely driven by health concerns, with a majority now viewing even moderate drinking as harmful. This change in drinking habits reflects evolving perceptions about health and possibly shifting social norms.

In fact, recent studies have told the public hat booze is straight-up poison, and enhances the odds of developing a range of lethal cancers.
