Iowa State Patrol Continues Investigation into Morning Fatality Crash

iowa dept of public safetyKossuth County, IOWA — On Friday, March 22, 2013, a collision occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. on Highway #169 two miles north of Algona in Kossuth County. The collision involved a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass, driven by Robert Lee Sabin, age 56, of Lakota, Iowa. The other vehicle was a 2000 Dodge Neon, driven by Jeremy Adam Sweeney, age 36, of Titonka, Iowa. At the time of the crash, Sabin’s vehicle was traveling southbound and Sweeney’s vehicle was traveling northbound. Sweeney’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck, nearly head-on, Sabin’s vehicle in the southbound lane of travel. Both drivers were the lone occupants of their respective vehicles.

Robert Lee Sabin was extricated from his vehicle and subsequently pronounced dead at the Kossuth County Hospital in Algona. Jeremy Adam Sweeney was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City with serious injuries.

The collision remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

Assisting at the scene were the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Department, Algona Police Department, Kossuth County Ambulance, Algona Fire Department and Mercy Air Life.
