WORTH COUNTY – Wednesday evening, a North Iowa truck driver captured some video of a rescue in progress on Interstate 35 near mile marker 211 in Worth County near the Minnesota border.
This is “a short clip from my video dash cam from last night,” the man said. He calls himself “Trucker Dave.”
“I have a video dash cam in my truck windshield running continuously.”
“Heavy rain had just cleared the area, but the ditches were running almost to the bankful,” Dave said. “You can see the rushing water in the west-ditch in the video.”
Dave said that multiple ISP and Worth County Sheriff’s vehicles, as well as Lake Mills, IA Fire department and a tow-truck roll-deck were cleaning up vehicles in trouble.
“Apparently, a dark pickup/SUV went into the rushing waters of the west ditch and got washed about 1/10th of a mile down to the river,” Dave stated. “Just as my truck comes to the fire-trucks, you can see just the roof and 2/3rds of the windshield of the dark pickup in the water. I saw at least two firemen on the down-river side of the vehicle but could not see anyone inside. Don’t know if anyone was hurt.”
Dave said that as he got closer to Clear Lake, “the Mason City Fire Department water rescue equipment was running north towards the scene.”
