WATERLOO – Two people were shot in a scuffle at a Waterloo house.

On Monday, May 9, 2022, Waterloo police received a report of shooting at 263 Western Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers located a victim, later identified as Ashley Cronan, suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Waterloo Fire arrived and transported Cronan to Allen hospital for treatment. Responding officers in the area also located a Roy Morrel Stewart, age 38, near the scene. Stewart was found to be also suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand and was transported to the Allen Hospital.

Dr. Joel Fitzgerald, Waterloo Police Chief, released the following, statement after the incident: “Detectives investigating the shooting interviewed several witnesses confirming that Stewart sustained the gunshot wound pursuant to a struggle he had with bystanders. After receiving medical treatment at the hospital, Waterloo police officers took him into custody for felon in possession of a firearm, and related charges. This is yet another example of an arrest of a felon who should have never had a firearm in their possession causing reckless injuries.”
