“Trouble” In River City! Open 2019 Pool Championships Return Memorial Day Weekend In Mason City

MASON CITY – North Iowa Events Center (NIEC) and Midwest Poolplayers Association (MPA) will again partner in delivering The “Trouble” Tournament: 2019 River City Pool Championships with up to 32 tables coming to the Marion E. Olson Building at North Iowa Events Center in Mason City for open competition this May 23-26, 2019. The event is free to spectators and again positioned to compliment all of the great Band Festival activity that occurs locally each Memorial Day weekend. Players of all abilities and ages may compete and no sanctioning is required. Cash will be paid to the top of the field and with sponsor support, North Iowa Events Center has added $3,000 to the overall prize pool to help ensure healthy pay-outs for each of the winners.

“Band Festival is such an incredible Mason City event with rich heritage and important history,” said Jason Baumann, General Manager at North Iowa Events Center. “We knew adding pool competition would present new opportunity. Increased North Iowa Events Center focus on enhancing and complimenting area activity creates exciting new dynamics for the organization. River City Pool Championships saw such an amazing response from participants, sponsors and guests in year one that we quickly learned bringing it back annually was a must.”

The singles 8-ball tournament will start on Thursday, May 23 at 7pm (5pm check-in) with play continuing through Friday. Individual players may enter for as little as $50. Open doubles 8-ball action starts Friday, May 24 at 7pm (5pm check-in) and the open 3-person team 8-ball event concludes tournament play starting at noon on Saturday, May 25, leaving plenty of time for players and families to enjoy the morning’s historic downtown parade. All events will be played on 7-foot Valley Tables with Championship Ultra Cloth with Red Circle Cue Balls. Tables will be set on Free Play and all entry fees include green fee (no quarters needed!). Food and beverages will be served throughout the event with proceeds benefitting NIEC and your North Iowa Fair.
