Douglas James Ballard, 67, of Reinbeck, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Mercy One Waterloo Medical Center in Waterloo, IA. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Reinbeck Memorial Building in Reinbeck. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2025, at Abels Funeral & Cremation Service-French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck.

Inurnment will take place following the service at the Reinbeck City Cemetery. At the conclusion of the graveside service a time for fellowship will take place back at the Reinbeck Memorial Building where lunch will be provided.

Doug was born on July 31st, 1957, to Louis William and Marian P Ballard, brother to Janet and Curt. He attended Reinbeck Community Schools and graduated in the class of 1975, which was proclaimed by the gentlemen of the class “Year of the stud! Doug met Carolyn Mumm on June 2nd, 1974, and declared that he would marry her someday. They married August 31st of 1979 and were married just short of 46 years. Together they raised many four-legged children until their daughters, L.W. and Hannah were born. Doug spent his time loving on his girls, working for PCI and Pioneer, creating stained glass, tending to his beer garden, long slow rides ’round the mile section, sunflowers and giving his grandson Jax noogies. He most enjoyed playing music with his brother Curt.

Doug leaves behind his wife Carolyn Ballard, Daughter Hannah and her husband Justin Dudley, one grandson Jax Dudley, sister Janet Bowen, sister-in-law Patty Ballard, and numerous nephews and nieces. Doug was preceded in death by grandparents Rube and Luella Ballard, grandparents Loyd and Leona Plaehn, his parents Bill and Marian Ballard, brother Curt Ballard and daughter L.W. Ballard.
