Wood mulch available on request

MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board Roadside Management staff is continuing with annual tree and brush removal efforts within county road right-of-ways near Mason City and Clear Lake, and has wood mulch available for the public. The mulch makes an excellent weed barrier and helps with moisture retention in landscaping and tree planting projects.

Residents of Cerro Gordo County may request a full dump truck load(s) of mulch by contacting the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board at (641) 423-5309. The mulch will be delivered at no cost to dump sites in close proximity to work areas.

In Short. The mulch has in most parts been taken from the roadside ditches. It is comprised of trees and brush that in the past has been proven to be used as wildlife cover for the now next to extinct pheasant & rabbit populations.

With Birds of Prey along with Coyote populations on the rise, now there are far fewer places of shelter for small game.

I could go on and on about what is wrong with most County Roadside Management programs while offering wiser aternatives that benifit people and animal in kind.

These roadside program need an adjustment. If Pheaants Forever can’t get it done, Who can?
For starts you. Let the mulch rot. Or call the Cerro Gordo County Supervisors and ask a few questions.

Thank you, bobby wolfram
