Dave Schrader, 97, of Charles City, passed away Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Dave Schrader will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday at the church.

Dave Emil Schrader, the son of Paul and Florence (Ponto) Schrader, was born on May 30, 1927, in Floyd County, Iowa. He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Charles City High School in 1944. Dave served in the United States Navy from February 1946 – December 1947. He was the last living World War II veteran in Floyd County. Dave was united in marriage to Phyllis Zingg on February 18, 1950.

Dave was a dedicated, hardworking farmer. During the winters, he worked for Koebrick Welding. He used his welding skills to help fix things for people and created many projects as well. Dave was a member of Floyd County Milk Producers, Floyd County Pork Producers, Floyd County Cattleman, and Floyd County Cattle Marketing. He was a volunteer firefighter for the St. Charles Township for 37 years, serving as fire chief from 1991-1993. Dave was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church serving as head usher for many years and donated his time for snow removal in the winter.

Living family members include his children: Nancy Herron of Charles City, David Schrader of Connecticut, Richard (Terry) Schrader of Charles City, and Michael Schrader of Rhode Island; grandchildren: Paul (Amy) Schrader, Ryan (Shannon) Schrader, Stephanie Herron, and Kevin (Tonni) Herron; great-grandchildren: Chase Herron, Wyatt Schrader, Ellie Schrader, Rayna Schrader, and Leah Schrader.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Schrader in 2017; son, Kevin Schrader; and sister, Betty (Roy) Peterson.
