July 11, 1942 – April 24, 2025

John Campbell, 82, of Hampton, passed away April 24, 2025, in Apache Junction, Arizona. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2025, at Woodley Funeral Home in Hampton. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton. John will be laid to rest at the Hampton Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for John and his family.

John Richard Campbell was born July 11, 1942, in Iowa City and grew up in Nevada, Iowa, until moving to Dumont. He was a typical kid, riding bikes with his brother from the farmhouse to town. He worked on the family farm and graduated from Dumont High School in 1960. On January 22, 1966, John was united in marriage to Linda Bailey. To this union, two daughters were born.

John worked for Hampton Heating for 52 years, then ‘retired’ and worked for Mort’s Plumbing and Heating part-time for several more years. There are only a few homes in Hampton and the surrounding areas that he has not been in. John was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton. He enjoyed golfing, camping and reading. John was always tinkering; he needed something to do to keep busy, but restoring old cars was his true passion. His 1961 Pontiac Bonneville convertible even made its debut in the Action Track magazine and he was so proud of that!

John is survived by his wife Linda Campbell of Hampton; daughters Jackie (Dennis) Benning of Hampton and Chris (Kris Jarrard) Campbell of Iowa City; grandson Josh (Lauren Phan) Benning and their daughter Della of Owatonna; granddaughter Mackenzie (Tyler) Kokemiller of Pleasant Hill; sister Rosemary Hinderaker of Nevada; brother Don (Jan) Campbell of Hampton; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Agnes (Fred) Hopkes.
