Steven R. Hanna (T-Bone), 71, of Forest City, Iowa, passed away on April 11th, 2025. He was born on October 7th, 1953, to Robert and Lois Hanna. Steven will be remembered for his storyteller’s charm, sailor’s vocabulary, and compassionate heart. He had a deep love for nature, a gift for making people laugh, and a habit of turning any backyard gathering into something unforgettable—including impromptu tours of his handmade outhouse, which he proudly stocked with gag gifts and unexpected surprises.

Steven met his wife, Teresa, in a heated game of foosball while she was attending Waldorf, and they were married four years later on February 20th, 1981. They spent countless nights binge-watching war documentaries and munching on popcorn together—a quiet ritual he truly cherished. Just as easily, he could be found surprising guests with backyard bow-and-arrow trick shots or casually handling hot burning coals with his bare hands during fire pit nights—acts that made him seem superhuman to the little kids in the neighborhood.

He spent years “hunting rocks” with his brother, introducing the joy of artifact hunting to many friends and family members along the way. Over time, he amassed a collection of hundreds of local artifacts—each with a story—which will be donated and preserved for others to enjoy.

Steven took immense pride in his immaculate yard and flower beds, carefully tending to them season after season. His green thumb turned his outdoor space into a neighborhood landmark, where beauty and bonfires lived side by side.

Though he worked for the Forest City Water Department for decades, it was the time spent hunting, fishing, collecting, and gardening that brought him the most joy. He also had a quiet way of inspiring others to see how awe-inspiring nature could be, simply by sharing what he loved. For nearly 20 years, he proudly stood by Teresa’s side as a familiar face in the Waldorf University sports crowd, cheering her on and building community with his dry wit and boisterous laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa; his daughter, Erica, and her partner, Chris; his brothers, Dave (Mary) and Mike (Pam); his brother-in-law, Andy Swenson; his nieces and nephews: Kari (Shawn) Olson, Chris (Holly) Hanna, Shauna (Josh) Hanna-Nollin, Melissa (Chatta) Olvera, Travis (Mary Jo) Rieck, and Troy (Dena) Rieck; many great-nieces and nephews; his father-in-law, Sid Swenson; and his best friend and motorcycle trip companion, Brad Lawson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lois Hanna; his mother-in-law, Mary Jo Swenson; and former sister-in-law, Cheryl Hanna.

Steven’s legacy of laughter, love for the outdoors, and his beautiful gardens will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew him.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Schott Funeral Homes, 505 N. Clark St. Forest City, IA, 50436.

The family encourages you to leave stories and memories of T-Bone on his obituary page under the “tribute wall” tab on the Schott Funeral Homes Website.
