Lynne Alphonsine Scott, 87, of Northwood, IA passed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Lutheran Retirement Home surrounded by family.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00pm Friday, February 28, 2025 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave S, Northwood, Iowa. Burial will follow at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.

Lynne was born on October 13, 1937 in Troyes, France to Ben Ali Ben El Hezil Rahal and Marie (Royer) Rahal. She was born and raised in France during World War II. She worked as a stenographer and a telephone operator in Orleans, France, where she met a young U.S. Soldier named John Edward Scott. They married on July 25th, 1964 and raised four children.

Lynne was a loving mother of four children, and an Army wife, traveling throughout many duty stations in Europe and the United States, including France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Texas, Kansas, New York, and Illinois. She was the glue that held the family together throughout these many transitions.

She remained a French citizen, but was very proud of passing her U.S. Citizenship test. It was very important to her. She was very proud to be both French and American. Although she had over 50 years in the United States, she maintained her charming French accent.

Lynne and John eventually divorced after being stationed at Fort Sheridan, IL. It is here that she spent nearly 40 years and made many friends. She worked at the Highland Park Hospital for 35 years. She was endeared by many.

Lynne’s warmth, resilience, and adventurous spirit touched many, leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting legacy. An avid traveler, Lynne explored many countries and embraced new experiences wholeheartedly. Remarkably, she never held a driver’s license and walked everywhere, regardless of the weather. To say that she was a strong woman would be an understatement.

Lynne lived nearly a decade after having a stroke and was a long time resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, IA. She was loved by and grateful for the loving care she received from the staff.

Lynne loved music, travel, and family. She was able to visit her family in France one last time with her children and granddaughter Jane in 2018.

Those left to cherish Lynne’s memory are her children, Linda (James) Medlang, John Scott, Theodore Scott, and Nancy (Mark) Schucart; grandchildren Jessica (Scott) Butler, James William Medlang, Sonya Medlang, Nicole Scott, Thomas Scott and Jane Schucart; great grandchildren, Ellie Butler, Kali Butler, Rylie Butler, Liam Mapes and Lainey Mapes; two special nieces, Geraldine Bruneel and Christiane Rebours, as well as other nieces and nephews.

Lynne is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Gaston, Gilbert, Henriette, and Michelle Bruneel, and her infant grandson Robert Scott.

She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
