OBIT: Judy Mae Wagner

Judy Mae Wagner, 79, of Mason City, IA passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 after a long battle with respiratory issues. A memorial service will be held this spring on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2:00pm at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel.

Judy Mae Wagner, 79, of Mason City, IA passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 after a long battle with respiratory issues. A memorial service will be held this spring on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2:00pm at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Education Foundation of Mason City Public Schools or the Stockman House Museum Foundation.

Judy Mae Wagner was born in Norfolk, NE on May 21, 1945. She was the firstborn of three children to Victor and Dorothea (Hartwig) Wagner. Judy attended Christ Lutheran School K-8th grade and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1963. She earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with a minor in History from University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1967 and Masters of Education degree from Drake University in 1991.

Judy was a lover of Elvis Presley’s music, the color red, flower gardening, traveling (especially to Panama), and was also a big sports fan.

Judy dedicated 35 years of her life to elementary education. Her teaching career began in Bloomfield NE, followed by Sioux Center IA, and then at Wilson and Hoover Elementary Schools in Mason City, IA from 1972-2002. She was active in the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) as both a local and unit president. Judy also served on several committees over the years writing elementary school curriculum.

After retiring from teaching in 2002, Judy remained an active member of the Mason City community. She enjoyed water aerobics and playing Bridge, 500, and Mahjong with her dear friends. She was very fond of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture and volunteered at the Stockman House Museum and MacNider Art Museum for numerous years. She was a Preceptor for Alpha Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Mason City. Judy also enjoyed taking Lifelong Learning Institute classes at North Iowa Area Community College.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Dorothea Wagner, and her brother, James Wagner, all of Norfolk, NE.

Judy is survived by her brother Dennis (Carol) Wagner of Summerfield, FL and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
