Woodbury County, IOWA – On August 17, 2013, at approximately 8:00 p.m., 32 year old Thomas Huisman, an inmate at the Woodbury County Jail, was found unresponsive in his cell. All attempts to revive Huisman were unsuccessful. Following their protocol, the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office requested the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conduct the investigation into Huisman’s death.
An autopsy was conducted at St Luke’s Hospital on August 16, 2013. Preliminary autopsy results confirm that Huisman’s cause of death was asphyxiation by ligature and the manner of death is suicide. No foul play is suspected in Huisman’s death.
