Nevada- Marjorie Joan Wenzel 85, formerly from Clear Lake, IA, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Rolling Green Village, Nevada, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Ave North, Clear Lake, Iowa; Lay Pastor Al Berge officiating. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery, Rowan, IA.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 3, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Ave. North, Clear Lake, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House, Ames, Iowa in Marjorie’s memory.
Marjorie Joan Olinger was born on February 2, 1939, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Homer and Jeanette (Ostendorf) Olinger. She received her education in the Clear Lake and Manly school systems before graduating from Rowan High School.
On November 23, 1958, Marjorie was united in marriage to Wayne Warren Wenzel in Rowan. Shortly after, they made their home in Belmond, where they were blessed with four children. Marjorie had a caring heart and dedicated many years as a nurse’s aide at the Belmond Nursing Home. After retiring she would often help others in their home with care.
She enjoyed tending to her garden, baking, cooking, and sewing. Above all, her greatest joy was her family—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished family gatherings and reunions.
Marjorie was a longtime member of Immanuel Reformed Church in Belmond. In 2008, she and Wayne retired to Clear Lake, where they continued to enjoy time with family and friends.
Marjorie is survived by her four children, Stephanie (Clint) Kalvig of Huxley, IA, Steven (Linda) Wenzel of Stratford, Susan (John) Carlson of Cambridge, MN, and Shelly (Eric) Berg of Hermantown, MN; grandchildren, Carina (Chris) Phillips, Clinton (Desirè) Kalvig, Sara (Sean) Perkovich, Jessica (Brett) Opheim, Samantha (Tom) Solomonson, Kyle Wenzel, Daniel Carlson, Michael (Laurel) Carlson, Grant Berg (Sonja Mischke) and Nick Berg; great-grandchildren, Shane and Chloè, Blake, Anthony, Madison, Alex and Jenna; siblings, Marcia (Dennis) Anderson, Kurt (Tip) Olinger, Richard Olinger; brother-in-law , Roger (Karen) Wenzel; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her infant sister Carolyn; parents, Homer and Jeanette Olinger; husband, Wayne Wenzel; great grandson, Camron; siblings, Merle Olinger, Gary (Pat) Olinger, Harold (Bonnie) Olinger, Maryls Younkins and sister-in-law Pat Olinger.
