AMES – Another shooting took place in Ames over the weekend, this time resulting in a dead man.
At approximately 6:30 PM on January 18, 2025, Ames police officers were dispatched along with medical personnel to an apartment on South 5th Street in Ames. Upon their arrival, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The victim was later identified as Parker Louis Stoneburner, 25, of Boone, Iowa.
Police said that after a preliminary investigation it is believed there is no ongoing threat to the public, however, it is still a very active investigation.
“We ask that the public stay out of the area as the investigation continues and the scene is processed,” police explained.
Just a couple of days earlier, an Ames townhouse was riddled with bullets after a drive-by shooting. This incident was only about half a mile south of the fatal shooting incident that happened Saturday.
Also Saturday, police had to clear up information on another potentially tragic incident.
“It is being reported on another social media account that the Ames Police Department is investigating the report of a homeless person who was found frozen under a bridge,” police explained. “This is not accurate. The Police Department and medical did respond to a person who fell from a bridge earlier today and was transported to the hospital for treatment.”
