COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND – In a strange season in which Iowa wins more than it loses, the Hawkeyes traveled out east and with a fourth-string quarterback, easily handled Maryland, 29-13.

Iowa (7-4, 5-3) met Maryland (4-7, 1-7) inside SECU Stadium Saturday morning and went right to work handing the ball to Kaleb Johnson, He had 35 carries for 164 yards. Iowa moved down the field on its first possession and coughed it up on a fumble deep inside Terrapin territory to ruin the drive.

Drew Stevens had 5 field goals in the win, and on defense, Jay Higgins had eight tackles and an interception.

Head Coach Kirk Ferentz

Jackson Stratton was Iowa’s quarterback and showed off a strong arm.  Starter Cade McNamara remains out under the concussion protocol.

After the game, Head Coach Kirk Ferentz said, “Just a really good football game for us and a good win for our team. I am really proud of everybody’s efforts, not just today, but the entire week getting ready for today.  I thought our guys played really hard and put a lot of heart into it.”

Iowa closes out the regular season next Friday night playing host to Nebraska in the Pioneer Heroes Game. The game will be televised on NBC.
