MASON CITY – Mason City mayoral candidate Max Weaver was greeted Tuesday evening with an overflow crowd at the Mason City library, where he held his first of several public forums to discuss his campaign.
Young and old were in attendance; some sat, some stood, some came in and out of the room as they wanted. Parents brought their children. Mr. Weaver described his background, his upbringing and his devotion to Mason City over three decades of political involvement. He described petitions, campaigns, and issues that have transformed the community over the years.
Mr. Weaver proclaimed his goal to be “the best darn mayor” Mason City ever had, and vowed to take the “best qualities” from former mayors like Ken Kew, Stan Romans, Roger Bang and others.
“I didn’t agree with them all. But there is one thing I know for sure. All of them had some good qualities. We all do. Even our current mayor does,” Mr. Weaver told the crowd of about 60 people as they came and went over the course of nearly two hours.
The meeting was slated for a 6 PM and start, but the Globe Gazette published in its print version that it was a 7:30 start. Some folks arrived late.
“I hope we can all be accurate in the future,” Mr. Weaver said of the mis-hap as he welcomed folks who arrived late. NIT was the only media that covered Mr. Weaver’s public forum.
The next public forum for Mr. Weaver’s campaign will be held in the Large Study Group Room on the first floor of the Mason City Public Library (Please use the Coffee Shop entrance) on Tuesday, October 15th starting at 10:00 a.m.

Ballot
Good question. WHo’s HAND took the balet from you and then who’s hand and so on???? And where are they being held?
Keep Mason City going WITH it’s OWN people!
Vote MAX MATT FOSTER JODI !!!!!!!
Who’s minding the mint? In other words the early votes. Are they under lock and key? Who in Bookmeyers or the globe or any other hater in town has access to mess with them?
Don’t trust any single one of them everyone!
Matter of fact I will say right now the votes on election day should be recounted if Bookmeyer takes this…just to be sure.
The true snakes in the grass!
Please get out and VOTE! Go to the courthouse and vote early!
Mason City will be opening up there Circus again after this coming election. With the council they have they are a joke know and let’s make it worse.
Max will win even with Bookmeyers big advantage of money if people will get off their rear ends and door knock for him and go vote. Otherwise we will have 4 more years of the same.
i talked to max today outside good shepard he cares about the community the people and making Mason city a better town he’s a straight forward guy no nonsense thanks for your concern max vote max and matt markwart two honest and honorable men
Glad to see Max out in front of people. Am undecided so i really want to hear where the candidates stand.
Go get them Max-Get out and VOTE people.
Weaver knows this city inside out. He’s familiar with all nooks and crany’s and cares about each person. I don’t think Max belongs to any exclusive clubs and I heard he does not drink a drop of beer or liquor or wine. That’d be a big change.
I didn’t make it to his meeting last night, if I had gone I would have had to stand. I’ll be at the next one.
TODAY mayor……….Tomorrow president!!!!!!!!!!! elect max…. git-r-done mason city………
I went to Max Weaver’s meeting last evening, arrived about 6:45 and they were out of chairs. I found they had to move to larger accommodations has the first room was far to small to hold the crowd. Even after the move there were a good 16 to 20 people standing in the doorway and spreading into the hallway.
Those who were there were fully engaged, many spoke of ways to get their neighbors to vote, people with whom they worked along side were also brought up. Frankly I was surprised but it was a pleasant surprise. When I went in I was sort of undecided, but when I left I had made up my mind to vote for Max.
