Robert “Bob” Brown, age 92, of Riceville, IA went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2024 surrounded by his family at the Riceville Care and Therapy Center.
Robert Leroy Brown was born on January 31, 1932 to Roy and Margaret (Johnson) Brown in Manson, IA. He was baptized on March 6, 1932 and confirmed on April 14, 1946. Bob graduated from Manson High School in 1951. Following graduation Bob enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country from 1952-1954.
On August 26, 1956 he married Shirley Gommels. Together they raised their four children: Mark, Sandra, Douglas and Paula.
Bob spent most of his working years farming. He also delivered trailers for Featherlite and was a skilled craftsman. He enjoyed camping with family and playing cards with friends.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of 68 years, children: Mark (Judy) Brown, Sandy (Joe) Ulwelling, Douglas (Kathy) Brown and Paula (Jerry) Stofferahn, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mardella (Robert L) Acher and Helen (Winnie) Egli and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville with Pastor Matthias Wollberg officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services at the church. Schmelzer (formerly known as Lindstrom) Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
