Debra Mulder, age 68, of Riceville, IA passed away on November 19, 2024 after a short stay at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center.
Debra Lynn (Hansen) Mulder was born April 13, 1956, to Jack Louis Hansen and LaVonne Mae (Roggemann) Hansen in Mason City, IA. She had two half-sisters on her father’s side from a prior marriage, Joan (Hansen) Verhoef-Wales and Merry Kay (Hansen) Hays . Growing up, she went camping frequently with her parents and maternal grandparents. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1974, and then went on to receive an AA at NIACC in Mason City. After graduating, she began working at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, which is where she met John Vern Mulder who was working there as an accountant. They were married in Mason City, IA on February 14, 1982, and welcomed their first child, Adam Troy Mulder, later that year on October 2, 1982. While living in South Dakota, they welcomed their youngest child, Casie Marie Mulder, on May 11, 1984 (which was also John’s birthday).
During their lives together, John and Deb lived in various places around the Midwest, spending 14 years in Marion, IA where their children graduated, before moving to Riceville, IA in 2008. Deb especially enjoyed baseball—having season tickets to the Cedar Rapids Kernels while living in Marion, IA. She was excellent at coming up with unique and entertaining Halloween displays and costumes each year, enjoyed completing word searches, spoiling her grandkids, and spending time with her best friend, Elaine Abel.
Deb is often described as kind, generous, selfless, and “born to be a grandma”. She filled each of our lives with joy, laughter, and genuine love. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Especially her son Adam Mulder (Marion, IA), daughter Casie Mulder (Cedar Rapids, IA), grandchildren: Damion Rollberg and Sage Mulder (Bartow, FL), and Caiden Mulder (Cedar Rapids, IA), as well as multiple nieces, nephews and grand-cats.
She was preceded in death by both her parents Jack and LaVonne Hansen, husband John Mulder, and both sisters Joan Verhoef-Wales and Merry Kay Hays.
