MASON CITY – The Mason City Council has put together a plan for the community covering 2025 and 2026 and is set to direct City Hall to put it into action.
The Mason City Council met on November 12 to set its policy agenda for calendar years 2025 and 2026, and is moving to formally adopt that agenda. The City Council established the following policy agenda for calendar years 2025 and 2026:

• Initiate Redevelopment of Southbridge Mall with Focus on Family Entertainment and Conference Center Uses
• Continue to Promote Broad-Based Housing Initiatives with Focus on Increased Owner-Occupied Development
• Conduct Downtown Assessment to Evaluate Beautification, Bike & Pedestrian-Friendliness, and Other Factors
• Evaluate and Develop Comprehensive Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations Strategy and Encourage Coordinated Promotion of Existing Assets such as Arts Community
Finance Director Brent Hinson said after the meeting, “Thanks to the Mayor and City Council for their participation in this year’s strategic planning process. We had a productive Council goal-setting session on November 12, and are now bringing back the agreed-upon Policy Agenda for formal adoption. As discussed, after this resolution is formally adopted, the Department Managers will meet again to develop a detailed work plan for implementation of the Policy Agenda, which will then come back to Council as the final step in this year’s process.”
The Council directed that this policy agenda be incorporated into a full strategic plan for calendar years 2025 and 2026, and that a work plan for implementation of the policy agenda be developed by the City Administrator for approval.

City should remove all traffic lights downtown (East/West streets can have stop signs) since there is so little traffic on HWY 65.
Also, install “left turn on green” on ALL traffic lights on HWY 122, completely pointless to have to sit through a full cycle to turn left when there is little to no oncoming traffic.
nice pic. the bridge to nowhere and the empty hotel spot.
Reminds me of the lemmings walking off the cliff
