Vickie Jo Slattery, 81, of Mason City, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Mo.

Born January 28, 1943, in Elgin, IL, to James Donald and Joan (Renfro) Larsen, Vickie lived a life filled with love, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends. During her childhood, the family relocated to Waterloo, Iowa, before settling in Gilmore City, where Vickie graduated from high school.

On November 10, 1991, Vickie married the love of her life, George Slattery. Together, they owned and operated multiple Subway restaurants across northern Iowa, working side by side while building a successful business and leaving an impact on their community. She later attended La James College and earned her certification as a nail technician.

Vickie was known for her warm, kind-hearted nature. A pillar of strength, she was often described as the backbone of her family. She had a passion for gardening, cooking, knitting, and sewing, and she loved to travel. Whether tending to her plants, sharing a meal, or knitting something special for a loved one, Vickie poured her heart into everything she did.

An avid reader, Vickie always had a book in hand. On her many travels, she would often finish a novel mid-flight, signing her name inside the cover before passing it on to a fellow traveler—a small gesture that embodied her generosity.

Vickie is survived by her loving husband, George Slattery of Mason City; her children, Tammy (Kent) Williams of Iowa Falls, Bud Williams of Mason City, Tyler (Jan) Williams of Camdenton, MO, Treve Williams, of Mason City Thad (Patricia) Williams of Las Vegas, NV, Tracy (Damon) DeBates, of Urbandale, and Jeff Slattery, of Mason City; daughter-in-law, Kelly (Jerry) Hartema, of Alden, IA; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nettie Allard, Donnie Larsen, Bill (Peggy) Larsen, and Carol (Bruce) Deville; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Tony Williams, and her sisters, Sherrie Trenary and Connie Vote.

Vickie will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, from 5 pm until 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Vickie’s honor to the Ronald McDonald House.
