MASON CITY – Children and Teens will explore all things underground this summer as the Mason City Public Library Youth Services Department presents Dig Into Reading and Beneath the Surface during their Summer Reading Program. The program will run from June 10th – July 19th. Registration begins June 3rd at the MCPL Youth Services desk or online at www.mcpl.org.

Activities for children include weekly story times and book clubs, weekly contests, Craft Mornings, a treasure hunt and a some very special performances. This summer’s performers include The Zoo Man, musician Hans Mayer, Chasing4Life, Iowa Public Television’s Dan Wardell and magician Jeff Quinn.

Activities for teens include Craft Evenings, Theatre Thursdays, a treasure hunt and some great performances. This summer’s performers include a Zombie Apocalypse program and Vicki Stinson of the Supernatural Research Society of Iowa. Teens will also be offered volunteering opportunities throughout the program.

Children and teens will keep track of their reading and earn prizes as they fill their reading logs. Participants that complete their reading logs before July 19th will be entered into the grand prize drawing of their choice. This year’s grand prizes include iPad Minis, NOOK eReaders, Leap Pads, North Iowa Bulls team autographed jerseys and more.

The 2013 Mason City Public Library Youth Services Summer Reading Program is proudly sponsored by Blank Park Zoo, Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation, Godfather’s Pizza, the Historic Park Inn, MCPL Friends of the Library, the North Iowa Bulls, North Iowa Therapy Associates, Northwestern Steakhouse, River City Sunrise Rotary, Roller City and the Stratford Foundation.
